MUHANGA – Residents of Ruvumera cell, Muhanga district braved the Thursday morning rains for four hours to dig up the remains of two genocide victims.

Mohamed Burakari, and another victim identified only as Muyombano were murdered during the genocide and their bodies dumped in a trench in the area.

The location where their remains were dumped was revealed by a self confessed Genocide convict during a Gacaca trial that was conducted in 2007.

However, the remains could not be exhumed then, as the family preferred to gather all the family members to witness a planned reburial ceremony.

The remains were cleaned after being retrieved and will later on be transferred to Nyamabuye for reburial, according to Alphonse Nkusi, the head of Kamugina village.
