RUBAVU – The Gisenyi Hospital administrator, Jeanne d’Arc Uwibambe and the Mostej Hotel manager, Eric Rukinirwa, have been arrested and detained at Gisenyi Police Post for allegedly pocketing money meant to facilitate a workshop for health workers.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday after investigations revealed that they had embezzled Rwf 16 million from the Ministry of Health claiming that they had organised a workshop last month.

The money was meant to cater for accommodation, meals and transport for the function, our sources say. "We have them here in detention, they conspired to embezzle the government of public funds by forging documents to justify the expenditures,” a police source told The New Times.

Police added that the duo inflated the number of participants to include names of people who had not attended.

"They will have to answer how and why they committed such crimes, the dossier has come from CID headquarters,” the source said.
