Employees of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) were on Thursday called upon to join the fight against trauma.

The message was put across yesterday by Pastor Antoine Rutayisire during a function at the Ministry to help employees get a deeper understanding of trauma.

This year’s commemoration theme revolved around fighting trauma among Genocide survivors which research shows is on the increase.

"Genocide survivors cannot be delivered from trauma if they are still living in poor conditions. There is need for each one of us to approach the effects of Genocide with a tough mind which will enable us to think hard, but also with tender hearts to help us feel for people going through these hardships,” said Rutayisire.

He took the people present through a brief history of Rwanda and noted that it was the politics of retaliation that led to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, but insisted that it is only through social cohesion that the past can be erased and help Rwandans to live in peace.

Rutayisire added that it is through the change of the mindset and allowing emotional healing that the problems among Rwandans can be resolved.
