The music industry in Rwanda has speedily grown over the past years. The youth have especially stood out and taken up the challenge of promoting local music in Kinyarwanda. 
One such upcoming artist is Eddie Mico, who has pursued a career in Rwanda’s local gospel scene.

Early life

Mico was born in Nairobi, Kenya to Joseph Dedan, and Assumpta Mico. During his fifth and sixth grade, Mico developed an interest in music; he also developed his dancing skills and singing popular rap songs. He learned to play the piano when he was in primary school.

Later, when he moved back to Rwanda, Mico made tremendous improvement in both vocal and musical skills by singing and playing instruments. He said that he joined a choir called ‘The Prince of Peace choir’ at his local church St. Etienne.

Together with a few friends, they formed the BMS group at their school composed songs and organized concerts and festivals at their school, Lycée de Kigali and other places.

Inspiration

Mico’s greatest musical influences include Kirk Franklin, Isrtael, The New Breed, Robert Kelly, Donnie Mc Clurkin and others. Locally he loves Ezra and Aime’s music.

His family has also played a role in influencing the budding star’s career—his father plays the guitar and sings as well. Mico says his grandfather was a singer, composer, and pianist.

His love for music has continued to grow.
Mico has never given up despite the challenges he meets.

He has used every opportunity to train himself for public events and concerts. He has released a few singles; his first track is, "YOU”, and he is currently working on a 10 track album. Mico says it will be released this year together with its videos.
