NYAMAGABE – International NGO World Vision has completed the construction of a new health centre worth Rwf220m in Uwinkindi sector, Nyamagabe district.

Uwinkindi Health Center was commissioned on Wednesday by the World Vision country director, George Gitau, who said that they chose Uwinkindi sector because many residents could not easily access health services due to long distance covered before reaching the nearest health centers.

The district Mayor, Alphonse Munyentwali, said that the health facility will uplift development in the area because good health and welfare is a source of development.

The health facility with capacity to accommodate more than 50 patients is expected to serve a population of 23,989 people.

Several residents who talked to The New Times said the new facility’s opening was timely.

"We are very happy because services are now closer to the people than was the case previously,” said Marie Chantal Muhimpundu a mother of two.

Dr Sixbert Nkurikiyumukiza, the director of Kigeme Hospital, added that maternal mortality rate was high due to lack of timely health intervention.
