Windows can make indoor living a beautiful experience. They play a vital role in allowing and controlling the amount of light that beams into a room.

In addition to this they are essential for allowing a natural flow of ventilation plus they can provide us with a beautiful scene to look out on.

A house without windows cannot be fully functional. During the day, we depend on natural light to fill up a home with radiance.

The sense of freshness that comes with natural light is revitalizing! A healthy dose of daylight in any home, or building gives us energy and vibrancy which ultimately has a positive effect on our emotional well being.

The right amount of natural light that flows into a room will make any room an inspiring place to be.

Consider your windowsill as a blank canvas.

A windowsill is a narrow shelf below a window, either on the inside or outside. They can be made out of materials which include wood, stone, tiles or bricks.

Windowsills have a functional purpose of framing a window, but they can also be decorated, typically the ones on the inside of a house.

Windowsills can serve many decorating purposes and there are countless artistic and attractive ways to decorate your windowsill and brighten up a room. No matter what your design style is, whether in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or living room windowsills can be a reflection of your character.

One of the easiest ways to dress up a sunny windowsill is with potted plants and flowers. Containers and plants should be small and portable, so that they don’t overcrowd the window.

Depending on the size of the windowsill, you chose to display anywhere from two to ten different flowers or plants.

The containers in which you decide to grow your plants, and the type of plants and flowers you choose together provide a wide variety of visually stimulating decor options.

Flower and plant pots are available in vast options; from square, rectangle or oval shapes to materials like clay, glass, stone or plastic. Whatever shape or material you settle with, ensure that its colour ties in with the rest on the colours throughout the room.

A medium to large window can serve as a reading area by treating the windowsill as a book shelf. This approach is an innovative way to display your books particularly if you don’t have bookshelves or have run out of shelving space.

If space permits, a collection of favorite books can be placed on the sill. A comfortable chair placed next to the window, with a tall lamp positioned behind it will work wonders. Complete this reading corner by placing a complementary rug in front of the chair.

You can also make use of a windowsill by using this area to place personal souvenirs and decorative objects. Consider an arrangement that includes a few framed photographs along with some candles and a small flower vase.

If you prefer not to place anything on a windowsill but still want a distinct look, don’t hesitate to paint them. You can either paint them a colour tone that is slightly lighter or darker than the rest of your walls, if you want to make a statement paint them a complementary colour to that of the walls.

(Complementary colours sit opposite one another on the colour wheel). Whatever colours you decide to paint the sills ensure that it will not clash with the rest of the colours in your home.

To make your windows as functional as possible, build to it a wide windowsill. Accessorize it with comfortable cushions and to the economize space underneath it, have a carpenter build in shelving or storage.

This type of windowsills are perfect for large windows, so as you sit there you will be sure to enjoy a full view with a refreshing braze on a good day.

Transform a window area with window treatments
Window treatments are accessories that are not only used to cover windows but decorate them too. They include shades, curtains, draperies, blinds, and rods.

Changing your window treatment doesn’t require much work. And is a quick way of transforming the look of any window area.

Rather than shying away from your windows and neglecting them, spend time personalizing them, by doing this you will be adding to your home another design element that can be visually appetizing!
