Corruption can be beaten

Editor,

I’ve always believed that with a system that tackled corruption earnestly, Rwanda could kick out the culture of corruption. Yesterday I got my proof that this was actually possible.

According to the Deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye, the embezzlement of public funds is on the decline.

He said that people had started being careful the way they handle public funds because they know that they would be arrested and serve long prison sentences if they became careless. This is a positive thing.

I believe that if there continues to be an anti-corruption campaign, we’ll one day say that corruption is merely negligible and not endemic in any sort of way.
