ONE of NPC-Rwanda’s top referees Eric Gaju has been nominated to officiate at this year’s Sitting Volleyball World Cup. The global show piece will be held in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA from July 11 -18.

Gaju, who officiated at last month’s World Club Championship, is now expected to under go theoretical and practical referee clinics before the competition according to a letter from the world organisation volleyball for disabled competitions manager Dennis Le Breuilly.

While acknowledging that it was a great honour to be singled out to officiate at the World Cup, the 25-year-old said that it was a challenge he was looking forward to.

"It is a big challenge and great opportunity and I want to make the most of it.”

This is good news for the National Paralympic Committee which has also posted two members on the African Development task force, a body that is charged with the development of sports for the disabled.

NPC president Dominique Bizimana has been elected Vice President of the body while Eric Karasira (technical director) will serve as the body’s competitions manager.

Rwanda will field a team at the World Cup after finishing second to Egypt in last year’s Great Lakes sitting volleyball championship which was hosted in Kigali.
