APR, Atraco register wins to stay in title race

APR moved two points clear at the top of the Primus National League after yesterday’s comprehensive 4-1 win over beleaguered Mukura at Amahoro Stadium.

The Southern Province side, who marched into the tie four points above the drop zone, took a surprise lead on the 37th minute through Kassim Hassan but a sensational hat-trick from APR’s rising star Emmanuel Sebanani a.k.a Crespo and a spot kick from Bebeto Lwamba completed the rout.

Even in the absence of five key players in skipper Patrick Mafisango, Didier Kapet, Tchimanga Mutamba, Msowoya Chikuepo and Victory Nyirenda, the reigning champions proved that they have depth in their squad.

Sebanani opened his scoring on the stroke of half time (45th minute) from a Didier Sella corner to leave the sides level.

Six minutes into the second half, Sebanani doubled APR’s advantage with a stunning curling effort that took Mukura’s goalkeeper Didier Bizimana the wrong way.

On the 65th minute, the former Musanze striker sealed his first senior hat-trick after pouncing onto a clever through pass from Amavubi international Haruna Niyonzima.

Lwamba sealed the rout 20 minutes from the spot kick following a foul on Abbas Rassou.

At Nyamirambo, Atraco leapfrogged Etincelles in second place after trouncing AS Kigali 4-2.

Ugandan international Michael Sebalinga, Jabir Mutarambirwa and Daddy Birori, who scored a brace, were on target for the 2007 champions while AS Kigali’s goals were scored by Amani Uwilingiyimana and Jean d’Amour Uwimana.

APR tops the table with 42 points, two clear of Atraco and a further three points above Etincelles.

Meanwhile, AS Kigali and Mukura remained stuck in ninth and tenth positions respectively.
