Rwanda National Police will next week kick-off the Traffic Week, an event organized as part of the 10th anniversary of the force. According to Police spokesman, Eric Kayiranga, the Traffic Week will be launched at Nyabugogo Taxi Park and will this year put major emphasis on discouraging over speeding as a way of minimizing road accidents.

According to Police spokesman, Eric Kayiranga, the Traffic Week will be launched at Nyabugogo Taxi Park and will this year put major emphasis on discouraging over speeding as a way of minimizing road accidents.
"We intend to sensitize the road users on limiting speed and educate them on the law governing road users to enhance safety on our roads,” he says, stressing that over 15 percent of the accidents registered on the roads in the country are caused by over speeding.
"The sensitization will be carried out among various categories of the users of our roads; these will include taxi drivers, pedestrians, truck owners and drivers and motorcyclists,” he said.
According to Kayiranga, the sensitization will be carried out through radio and television talk shows, billboards, banners and transport associations.
He added that there will be a countrywide massive deployment of traffic police officers who will be issuing car stickers and sensitizing road users.
The police publicist added that they will participate in several outreach programmes which will be aimed at bridging the gap between the community and the police force.
