REIGNING league champions APR resume their quest for this year’s Primus league title this afternoon when they host beleaguered Mukura at Mumena stadium.
The army side marches into the tie top of the table with 39 points and with a luxury of three games in hand; many believe the title is theirs to lose.
But the APR camp knows that they can not allow that to distract them. The team will be without their defending duo of Mutamba Tchimanga and Didier Kapet, the Malawi international pair of Chikuepo Msowoya and Victor Nyirenda and skipper Patrick Mafisango, who until press time had not returned from his native country DRC since the team’s 2-0 defeat against TP Mazembe in the Orange Champions league.
APR’s assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana has however downplayed the situation insisting that it is an opportunity for the other players in the team to show their quality.
"This is a good opportunity for the other players to rise to the occasion and prove doubters wrong.”
Mukura, who have managed 17 points in 19 games are 10th on the table and will need to be at their best to stop the champions.
"We are heading to Kigali with one objective, to win the game,” Mukura’s head coach Ali Bizimana said.
Last season, Mukura and APR shared league points. The Southern Province side then ejected APR in the MTN Peace Cup.
