The newly promoted Army Chief of Staff is upbeat about what he says is an "extra challenge and an extra responsibility” but stresses that it is all just work as usual.

Lt. Gen. Caesar Kayizari said this in a brief phone interview yesterday shortly after swearing in at Parliament alongside other top military leaders in an event that was presided over by President Paul Kagame.

"It is an extra challenge as well as an extra responsibility – it is work as usual! But it is a challenge I must brace myself and I accept it, and good enough, I am working with others,” said Lt. Gen. Kayizari who is the immediate former commander of the 3rd Division of the Rwanda Defence Forces.

The new Army Chief of Staff was recently promoted from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General. He takes over from Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga who was also elevated to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in the changes recent in the army.

Gen. Marcel Gatsinzi, the former Minister of Defence, was appointed to the new portfolio of Minister of Disaster Preparedness and Refugee Affairs. Gen. James Kabarebe, the former CDS replaced Gen. Gatsinzi in the Defence ministry.
