GATSIBO – The National Electoral Commission (NEC) volunteers in Gatsibo district on Monday lent a helping hand to a genocide survivor by repairing her house.

Sarafina Mukayuhi, 26, a resident of Rubira village, Kiziguro sector, had her house rehabilitated and roofed with new iron sheets.

The NEC representative in Eastern Province, Frank Rwigamba Kayiranga, said that the volunteers would continue to help the needy within communities.

"It is easy for a survivor whose house is in a sorry state to get traumatized. So, we are creating an atmosphere for such people to live a much more meaningful life,” he said.
Mukayuhi, a mother of two, said that she was overwhelmed by what the volunteers had offered as support.

Mukayuhi is a lone survivor in a family of 20 that perished during the genocide.
