NYAGATARE – The Mayor of Nyagatare district, Fred Sabiti Atuhe, told mourners gathered on Tuesday for the closure of the 16th genocide commemoration week that a number of cases of genocide ideology had been reported during the mourning week- despite warning residents against such cases.
NYAGATARE – The Mayor of Nyagatare district, Fred Sabiti Atuhe, told mourners gathered on Tuesday for the closure of the 16th genocide commemoration week that a number of cases of genocide ideology had been reported during the mourning week- despite warning residents against such cases.
The cases of genocide ideology, including threats directed at survivors and stoning at survivors’ houses were reported in the sectors of Gatunda and Rukomo.
Speaking in Gatunda sector, the Mayor advised residents to instead join hands in re-building the country, adding that people still harboring genocide ideology had no place in the Rwandan community.
‘It is very absurd that there are still people harboring genocide ideology in their minds,’ he said, warning of tough measures against such culprits.
At the same function, Lt. Col. David Ngarambe, the commanding officer of the RDF’s 55th Battalion stationed in Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts, said that citizens needed to work together for the sake of rebuilding the country.
