EALA members, MPs to honor genocide victims

KIGALI - Members of the East African Legislative Assembly will today join Rwandan lawmakers to honor the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

KIGALI - Members of the East African Legislative Assembly will today join Rwandan lawmakers to honor the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The 52  lawmakers, from all the five member states are in Rwandan for twelve days where they will deliberate on different issues of regional interest.

The delegates will watch a film on Genocide and also follow a presentation that will be made by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission Against Genocide (CNLG), Jean de Dieu Mucyo.

They will also focus on discussions around the theme, "16 Years after the Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi. Handling its Consequences” and there after  have an hour of open discussions.

The dignitaries will also hear from the Director General of Diaspora, Robert Masozera, who is expected to take them through the progress that has been regitered by "One Dollar campaign” project.

The events will be opened by the Speaker of the Senate, Vincent Birtuta and closed by the Speaker of EALA;  Abdirahin Abdi.

Thereafter, the dignitaries will tommorrow join the rest of the country to remember politicians killed during the genocide at Rebero Memorial Site in Kicukiro district.

The session will also be attended by members of the Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations, Gacaca, the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), the Prosecutor General and the Rwanda judges of the East African Court of justice  among others.
