Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club head coach Pierre Marshal Kwizera is confident his men will continue to fight to stay at the top of the table of the ongoing 2022/23 national volleyball league.
REG on December 3, overcame rivals Gisagara in 3-0 sets, a victory that earned them a place at the summit of the league with 37 points, three ahead of the Gisagara-based club.
It was a hard fought victory that Kwizera and his men want to build on to maintain their run of form and keep their place at the top of the table when they return to action to face Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) this weekend.
"Our prime target is to make sure we stay on top of the table, it will not be an easy task especially in phase six, but we will keep working hard to improve our game plan and try to do better in every game,” Kwizera said.
"We have a good chance of winning the league but we are focusing on winning our own games. That is why we will fight until the end,” he added.
Ruhango District will host the sixth phase of the national league when it resumes on the weekend of December 17-18.
This year’s league format is composed of eight phases. Participating teams have so far played from five different zones across the country, with Ruhango becoming their next destination.
A total of 15 teams, including seven women’s teams and eight for men, are taking part in the ongoing volleyball league which started in October.
After Phase five, in the men category REG VC leads with 37 points, Gisagara VC sits in second place with 34 points, while APR and Forefront are third and fourth respectively.
In the women’s category, unbeaten APR leads the table with 35 points, while Forefront follows in second with 30 points. Rwanda Revenue Authority claimed third place with 25 points with Ruhango following on the table with 19 points.
