NYAGATARE – Police in Nyagatare district has arrested a man in connection with throwing stones at a genocide survivor’s house in Rukomo sector.

According to Police, Cyprien Kanyonde, a resident of Rukomo 2 cell, Rukomo sector in Nyagatare district was arrested on the morning of April 6 after he was suspected of pelting Jacqueline Uwanyirigira’s house with stones.

‘His arrest followed a tip off from nearby residents,’ Police said.

On Wednesday, Police in Nyagatare had urged residents to be more vigilant especially against the security of genocide survivors. 

When The New Times visited Uwanyirigira, she said that such threats have been happening to her family during the Genocide commemoration period.

‘They have been pelting my house with stones for the last two years. I have reported this matter to local leaders but to no avail,’ she said.
