Mukura Victory Sport stopper Denis Hakizimana underwent a successful vertebral disc operation in Belgium.

The 24-year old told Times Sport upon his return from Belgium that he is recovering well from the nagging injury he had sustained in 2006 while representing the National University of Rwanda (UNR) in the East and Central African university games in Kampala.

"I thank the UNR community, Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Health for sending me abroad to have treatment.

Doctors were so professional to my injury and treated me so well that I no longer feel the pain,” a seemingly relieved Hakizimana noted.

Hakizimana, who is in his final year at the National University of Rwanda, joined the Huye based club nearly five years ago.

According to Mukura head coach Rajab Bizimuremyi, the player has started light training and has been restricted to jogging and private ball work to facilitate his quick rehabilitation from the injury.

The player has given no specific date for his return on the pitch but said he will take part in first team training sessions soon.

His return will strengthen the team’s defensive options. He can also play in the midfield and is seen as an outstanding replacement for the retired Juma Munyaneza.

Mukura central midfield position has been occupied by the 17-year old Cameroonian ace Jacques Kimenyi for the first two league games, both of which Bizimuremyi’s side has won.
