HUYE – The Bishop of Butare Diocese, Monsignor Philippe Rukamba has said that the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was largely a result of extreme greed.
Narrating his experience during the Genocide period in his home area, in the Eastern Province, Rukamba said that it was not uncommon to find people looting all kinds of property even that which seemed useless to them.
"You would find a man living in a traditional hut with a fridge, television set and all kinds of electronic equipment yet he had no electricity,” the bishop said.
"All this points to greed- the desire to for extra, beyond ones means.”
He called for a spirit of togetherness during the commemoration period warning, "You will be judged basing on what you did for your brethren.”
