Over 600 remains of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi were yesterday given a decent burial at Ruhuha Memorial Site in Bugesera district. The bodies were retrieved all over the sector after several Genocide convicts on the TIG programme (community service) revealed where the bodies were buried.

Over 5,000 Tutsis are said to have been killed in Ruhuha alone and 2,000 of them dumped in River Nyabarongo.
The sector Executive Secretary, Gaspard Gasirabo, called upon residents and those who participated in the Genocide, to stand out of the crowd and reveal the whereabouts of other remains so that they can also be accorded a decent burial
"There are still many Genocide bodies out there…and known by those who took part in the killings. This is the time for unity and reconciliation, and telling the truth where the bodies are is also part of this programme (TIG),” Gasirabo said.
Gaspard Harelimana, whose relatives were killed while others were thrown in Nyabarongo, appealed to them to reveal where his loved ones are so that they can be accorded a proper burial.
"They were killed and no one can give their life back…but at least we can give them respect by giving them a decent burial,” Harelimana implored.
