KIREHE - Kirehe Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Bernadette Kamungu, has called upon residents of the district to help heal the wounds of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

She said that communities have a moral obligation to help the survivors live a meaningful life.

"It is important to treat survivors with utmost care. Stakeholders in the healing process, including local leaders, have a role to play, especially during this trying period,” she said.

Madeleine Mukarukaka, the Secretary Ibuka, an umbrella organization for survivors’ organizations in Kirehe sector, added her voice to concerns centred on caring for survivors.

She said that last year, during the Genocide commemoration, she was harassed and had to seek protection from security organs.
