Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), the state owned television and radio body, has threatened to take legal action against Star Times Media, a Chinese pay television service provider based in Kigali.

According to Emmanuel Emoru, the UBC Cooperation Secretary, Star Times currently airs UBC`s programmes without their consent.

"We have written to warn Star Times Media and we will take legal action so that they can pay for their illegal subscription,” Emoru said in a telephone interview from Kampala on Monday.

"We do not have any contract with them and we intend to let the law take its course and whatever they will pay will range from the time they started encroaching on our services.”

When contacted, John Kaneza, the assistant CEO Star Times, denied any problems between the two parties.

"We have operated for about three years with UBC and we do not have any problem with the corporation,” Kaneza said.

"We are here and we are ready for anything”.
He, however, could not specify the terms under which they use UBC products.
