KIMIHURURA - Advocates need to stick to principle and be guided by truth to deliver impartial justice, ,  High Court president, Johnston Busingye, gave this advise yesterday while presiding over the swearing in of 183 advocates as new members of the Kigali Bar Association.

The function took place at the Supreme Court in Kimihurura.

Busingye reminded the lawyers that the best weapon in the legal profession is integrity and a proper conscience.

"Today, you swore to strive for integrity. Our profession has no police, our police is our conscience and that is what we rely on. Stick to principle and be truthful, avoid rumours and do not fear confrontation,” he said.

Busingye appealed to the new advocates to deliver justice as they have been entrusted and to be exemplary in their duties.

"You now know the law better than anyone else, you know about everyone’s rights better than anyone else. It’s your responsibility to deliver justice and be exemplary in giving advice,” he said

The chairman of the Bar Association, Vincent Karangwa, warned the new advocates that the road ahead was not simple but added that there were ways to make the work easier.

"This job is not simple and it has its challenges. However, you are expected to stick to the oath you just took,” Karangwa said.

"The Oath that you just took is not a joke because you swore to serve God and the Constitution. This is a a deal that you have sworn between yourselves and other authorities, including the nation.

Try to respect your profession and give it its value”.
