Women and youth called on to fight trauma and gender based violence

GICUMBI – Women and youth representatives in Byumba Sector have been urged to be at the fore front of the fight against gender based violence and console Genocide survivors, during the Genocide commemoration period.

GICUMBI – Women and youth representatives in Byumba Sector have been urged to be at the fore front of the fight against gender based violence and console Genocide survivors, during the Genocide commemoration period.

The call was made this Tuesday at Byumba Anglican Church conference hall by Byumba Health centre and Sector officials, in a one day workshop sponsored by IntraHealth.

"As mothers of the nation, you should be on the forefront in consoling genocide survivors during the genocide commemoration period in your localities to avoid trauma cases”, said the Director of Byumba Health centre Papias Iyakaremye.

Iyakaremye further called on the youth to use their energy to fight all forms of gender based violence in their respective villages (Mudugudu).

He also called on them to turn up in large numbers for voluntary testing and counseling of HIV/AIDS to ascertain their health status.

A total of 180 participants comprising of cell and sector Women and youth representatives turned up for the workshop.
