RWANDA’S speedster Davite Giancarlo kept his second spot on the African Rally Championship (ARC) charts intact despite a below par display in the three-day KCB Safari rally which climaxed on Sunday in Kenya.

The Rwandan champion, who lost ten minutes on day two (Saturday) after getting stuck in the mud, finished a distant 12th after clocking 182.18 minutes.

This left him on 53 points on the ARC charts, 25 points adrift of reigning African Champion Jamie Whyte, who clocked 149.29 minutes to claim the final podium slot of the 308km race.

Giancarlo, who finished second in the Kobil rally of Tanzania, the opening round of the ARC, was navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel in a Subaru Impreza.

Olivier Costa and Andrew Doig finished 11th after clocking 180.52 minutes while Fitidis Christakis, who claimed the final podium slot in Tanzania failed to finish the grueling rally after mechanical problems to his Subaru.

Home boy Lee Rose, who was co-driven by Pier Daykins in a Mitsubishi Evo 9, claimed the race after clocking 142.01 minutes.

It was his second victory in the rally which counts towards the Kenyan National Championship, KCB East African Rally Challenge series as well as the African Rally Championship.

Christakis and Burundian Alain Dethise are tied in third place with 21 points while Uganda’s Jas Mangat is fifth with 5 points.
