NYAGATARE - Police in Gatunda sector, Nyagatare on Thursday destroyed illegal local brew and marijuana worth Rwf1.5 million.

Police said the destroyed brew included 360 liters of local brew commonly known as Kanyanga, 15 cartons of Chief Waragi and two kilograms of marijuana.

Oliver Abaganwa, an official at Gatunda sector told The New Times that most of the illicit brew comes from the neighbouring Uganda.

"Most of the drugs transported to our sector come through Karama and Kiyombe sectors which border with Uganda. They transport them at night,” she said.

However, Abaganwa said that despite continuous illegal influx of the brew, cases have slightly declined.

‘Local authorities have stepped up efforts in fighting the vice. We are currently registering fewer cases compared to previous years,’ she said.
