AS KIGALI seized the initiative in a bid to retain the national women league title with a spectacular six-goal rout of Rambura at Kicukiro artificial turf.
Sonia Farida scored a brace while Angeline Mukeshimana, Memphia Hakizimana, Shadia Uwamahirwe and Mari Claire Uwamahoro also got their names on the score sheet to gift the Kigali City Council side a commanding win.
A few minutes later, the AS Kigali camp even had more reason to celebrate after learning that top contenders APR has been stunned to a 3-2 defeat against Aspej in Rwamagana although the army side’s coach Egidia Kayitesi was quick to blame the pitch for the loss.
"The surface of the pitch was very annoying and it was hard for us to play our usual game.”
Hakizimana’s goal took her league tally to 14 goals and kept her atop of the scoring charts as the first round contest came to a close.
The second round kicks off on April 18.
