Gatsibo women urged to join cooperatives

Gatsibo-Farmers and other “special” groups in Gatsibo District have been urged to embrace cooperatives to enable them take advantage of various opportunities.

Gatsibo-Farmers and other "special” groups in Gatsibo District have been urged to embrace cooperatives to enable them take advantage of various opportunities.

The call was made during a two-day workshop that ended yesterday that was organized by a regional agricultural initiative –The East Africa Dairy Development project (EDD).

The workshop engaged Gatsibo women representatives to embrace the spirit of the cooperative movement and attracted over 25 women representatives from all sectors of Gatsibo.

Celestin Nyamutamba, an EDD official, said that for the cooperatives to be profitable, there was need to boost the number of their members through increased share-holding.

He said that EDD-Rwanda employs strategies meant to encourage farmers to embrace modern methods of animal husbandry.
