MUHANGA- Teachers from Scotland and Malawi have mooted a new form of partnership with their counterparts in Muhanga District in the Southern Province.

Sheena MacGillivray, the head of "Connecting Classrooms” delegation who headed the visiting party, told The New Times that the aim of the visit was to solidify relations between Rwandans and her fellow citizens.

Connecting Classrooms is a British Council programme aimed at forging partnerships between schools in the UK and those in Sub-Saharan Africa.

"This has been a learning experience and we have been very impressed by various aspects of development, the education system and the culture. There is a lot to take back home,” said MacGillivray

She also revealed that by June this year, students and teachers from Muhanga District will also be able to visit the two countries so as to learn more from their new found colleagues in Scotland and Malawi.

The vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Alice Uwimbabazi, commended the initiative which she said was premised on mutual benefit for both parties. 

"I have polished up my mastery of the English language during the exchange and made new friends from abroad. This was a wonderful exposure,” said Christine Ayinkamiye, a P 6 pupil at Gahogo primary school.
