KIGALI - At the second graduation ceremony of the Independent Institute of Lay Adventist of Kigali (INILAK), the board chairman, Peter Nkubara, had one key message for the 741 fresh granduands – be customer oriented.

Nkubara’s advice was delivered at a time when improvement of customer care is a priority in Rwanda.

"Graduating and succeeding in academics is one thing, but there is need for preparedness in this competitive world,” Nkubara said. "As you join the field of work, you need to be customer-oriented for you to be successful and to contribute to the country’s development.”

Women constituted close to 57 percent of the graduands who completed programs in the faculties of Economic Sciences and Law.

Nkubara further explained that a ‘customer’ does not necessarily mean the one who buys products, but anybody who comes seeking help.

He added that customers need to be handled with care since they are very important in any occupation.

"According to research, when one customer goes unsatisfied, he or she will tell nine more about the bad service they received at your hands, which is bad news. But when a customer goes satisfied with your services, they will tell five more people about it,” he said.

The rector of INILAK, Dr. Jean Ngamije, urged the successful students to always work with utmost zeal and avoid sluggishness.

"You should not put your hard-earned qualifications to waste, use the knowledge you have acquired to bolster development,” Ngamije said.

According to the rector, the institute is now expanding its boundaries, bringing higher education closer to the people. 
A new campus has been opened in the Nyanza district, Southern Province and another one at Nyanza Kicukiro which is near completion.

The institute was founded in 1997 by PAFADER, an association of Adventists parents.
