AFTER a promising display at the just ended World Youth Olympics volleyball qualifiers in Egypt, the national women volleyball coach Paul Bitok reckons that the team needs early preparations to put in an even better display at the forthcoming Africa Junior Championships.

The continental event, to be held in Kigali in September, will among others attract Africa’s giants Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"We can not say that we want to be champions but a top three finish is certainly within reach if we do our homework well. We need to start training,” the Kenyan coach said.
"Good preparations coupled with our home advantage could do the trick for us come September,” he added.

The girls’ event will be held co-currently with the boys’ tournament.

Meanwhile, the national volleyball league swings back into action this Saturday with reigning male champions APR entertaining Groupe Scolaire de Butare at Camp Kigali.
