KARONGI – As the 16th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi approaches, students of Kigali Health Institute (Nyamishaba campus) in Karongi district have been urged to embrace activities which foster unity and reconciliation.
The call was made yesterday by Bernard Kayumba, the district Mayor while addressing the students at a function organised by the Students’ Club for Unity and Reconciliation (SCUR).
"As students who have acquired a lot more knowledge than anyone else, you should spearhead activities that promote unity and reconciliation most especially as we mark the commemoration period,” said Kayumba.
He encouraged the students to desist from divisionism and to reach out to local communities with messages of unity.
On his part, Supt Alex Rutabairu, the District Police Commander (DPC) warned the students against drug abuse, saying it destroys their health.
On behalf of the students, Clément Migambi, the president of SCUR, advised fellow students to heed the call of the local authorities.
