Youth from across the country will on April 7, march from KBC roundabout to Amahoro National Stadium to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The march, dubbed ‘Walk to Remember’ has been organized by Peace and Love Proclaimers (PLP), a local youth organization in partnership with Aegis Students.

Kate Kelly, the International Coordinator of ‘Walk to Remember’ said that five young people from each of the East African Community member states have been trained and they will organise marches in their respective countries on April 7.

According to Samuel Boares, the International Programme Coordinator of Aegis Students, the idea behind this event is to bring Rwandan youth together and show them that they have a role in uniting their countrymen.

"We believe that the youth have the power to change the future of Rwanda. That is why we seek to empower them to become the vocal channels that condemn genocide and call the country to unity and reconciliation,” said Boares.

He added that they intend to hold discussion groups and screen films aimed at teaching people about the repercussions of hatred and divisionism.
