SIX-time league champions Rayon Sport will unveil their new coach this Friday at Alpha Palace Hotel.
Contrary to earlier reports that Morris Nshimiyimana alias Maso (Baptista Kayiranga’s assistant) could see out the season, Rayon’s Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya yesterday revealed to Times Sport that the new coach would be unveiled this Friday.
Last Saturday, Kayiranga resigned as Rayon’s head coach citing excruciating pressure from club fans. It is said that the fans were calling for Kayiranga’s head after a 3-2 defeat against old foes SC Kiyovu in the Primus League.
Despite taking a healthy two-goal lead inside the first 30 minutes, Rayon fans watched in agony as Kiyovu pulled off a great come back to secure a 3-2 win at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.
The result coupled with threats and abuses from club fans forced the ex-striker to quit prematurely.
Prior to his resignation, Kayiranga had been issued an ultimate of winning three of Rayon’s four remaining league fixtures (Kiyovu, Musanze, Amagaju and bitter rivals APR).
Kayiranga was the last coach to put a smile on Rayon fans back in 2004 when the club won the league although he was controversially sacked a year later.
During the 2008/09 season, he returned to the club as an assistant coach to Raoul Shungu before being named head coach after Shungu was sacked for indiscipline.
