KIST is one of the biggest universities in Rwanda. Inset, Dr Charles Murigande, Minister of Education

Editor,

I want to welcome the four institutions of higher learning that were recently accredited by the government, giving them a green light to go ahead and confer degrees.

These accredited universities - Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (INATEK), Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK), Institut Polytechnique de Byumba (IPB) and Institut d’Enseignement Superieur de Ruhengeri (INES) are joining other universities and higher institutions of learning that are playing a key role in Rwanda’s development.

I believe that these new universities will play a big role in educating Rwanda’s emerging workforce. This is especially important when one remembers that there will be a marked increase in the number of secondary school graduates because of the 9 Year Basic Education program.

These new universities will be able to provide skills to these students, who might have not been able to go to the present-day universities like KIST and the NUR.
