The Executive Secretary of the Teacher Service Commission, Emmanuel Muvunyi, Friday urged science teachers not to use "copy and paste” teaching methods from the other countries.

"We need to come up with a Rwandan methodology. We don’t send you out there to copy and paste what you have learnt,” he said.

He said this during a training session organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Muvunyi underscored that the teachers needed to modify what they learnt from other countries and look for the best methods that suit the Rwandan situation.

He added that they should endeavour to choose only methods that are applicable in the Rwandan
.During the training, participants requested the Ministry of Education to ensure that universities in Rwanda, high schools and colleges of education, reintroduce demonstration schools so that they can play their roles in guiding curriculum directions and methodologies.

"The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with JICA, should support the implementation of multiplier effect projects submitted by participants in our reports,” Vedaste Mutarutinya, a senior lecturer from Kigali Institute of Education, said.

The participants also said that such trainings for teachers were good and that they should be done more regular so as to have a bigger effect.

Muvunyi said that it was his responsibility to raise the good ideas to higher levels for action and that the government was willing to do anything to see that the education system of Rwanda develops.

Speaking on the occasion Suzuki Fumihiko representative from JICA said that the JICA Rwanda office will continue to work with the Government of Rwanda for the brighter future of Rwanda.

"We will continue to support the actions and projects of Rwanda through the Ministry of Education,” said Suzuki.
