Rwanda will next month host the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) parliamentary session for the second time since joining the East African Community (EAC).

The parliamentary Director General for Communication and Outreach, Augustin Habimana, confirmed yesterday that the country would host the lawmakers from all the five member states for 12 days of deliberations.

Habimana explained that for every session, the EALA chooses a host country from its member states from where it does its work.

He explained that the 52 members, include nine from each member state, Ministers of each member state responsible for regional co-operation, the Secretary General of the EAC and the Counsel to the Community.

A tentative program seen by The New Times points to the Elections Bill dominating most discussions.

Most EAC countries will be going to the polls this year and the next. Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi hold elections this year followed by Uganda (2011) and Kenya (2012).

They will also discuss regional affairs and conflict resolution and also participate in commemoration activities at the end of the Genocide week and visit to the Rebero Genocide Memorial Site.
