I don’t agree with Hamza Nkuutu’s analysis : December 16th issue titled "Floyd proves ‘fraud’ claims are just rubbish”.
In his analysis he claims that before the Ricky Hatton fight, many boxing experts called Floyd Mayweather Jr a ‘fraud’.
Mayweather has won six world boxing championships in five different weight classes.
Since July 2005, he has been rated the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by The Ring magazine.
He has beaten the likes of Diego Corrales, Carlos Hernandes, Jose Luis Castillo and Arturo Gatti, all credible champions in their respective categories.
This not to mention victories against Carlos Baladomir, Sharmba Mitchell, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah and so on.
On the other hand Ricky Hatton’s fame and prominence came with his stoppage of an aging Kostya Tszyu in 2005.
Before that, he had had a string of victories against unknown opponents most of whom were British.
It was his victory against Jose Luis Castillo (a fighter who Mayweather had twice beaten before) that made him challenge Mayweather out of temporary retirement.
And it is the British press that hyped Hatton and his fans into actually believing he could beat Mayweather.
But real boxing experts and neutrals who had analysed the quality of the opponents the two boxers had faced, knew better.
