RWANDA’S involvement in next year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) depends on how well the Amavubi Stars play against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars. The two sides face off in May.

While Rwanda marched into the second qualifying round without even kicking a ball following Eritrea’s withdrawal, Tanzania portrayed how lethal they can be by humbling hapless Somalia 6-0 at Uhuru Stadium on Saturday.

John Boko and Kigi Makasi put the home side infront in the first half while further strikes from Mrisho Ngasa, Erasto Nyoni, Musa Mgosi and Nadir Haroub sealed a resounding win for Tanzania.

Tanzania advanced on a 6-0 aggregate as Somalia forfeited their home game due to security concerns.

This is expected to be Sellas Tetteh’s first test since assuming office last month.

Uganda, who reached the final round after a commanding 5-1 goal aggregates win over Burundi, will now play Kenya’s Harambee Stars who like Rwanda had an easy ride into the second round following the withdrawal of Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, Cameroon became the first country to qualify for next year’s Championship after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Congo in Yaounde.

Second-half goals by Eyenga Anicet, Julian and Edgar Momasso Saly secured the win for the Indomitable Lions.

This also ensured a 4-1 aggregate victory for the home side that missed out on the maiden competition held in Ivory Coast last year.
