RAYON Sport assistant coach Morris Nshimiyimana alias Maso will see out the club’s remaining fixtures of the season after Baptista Kayiranga’s resignation.

Kayiranga threw in the towel on Saturday when his side lost to old foes Kiyovu 2-3 at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.

Kayiranga had come under increasing pressure from the fans who desperately wanted to end their five-year trophy drought.

Rayon Sport Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya yesterday acknowledged to Times Sport that the club had issued Kayiranga an ultimate of winning three of Rayon’s four remaining league fixtures (Kiyovu, Musanze, Amagaju and bitter rivals APR).

"We agreed with him that he needed to win three of the remaining four games, but unfortunately after losing the first of those four, he decided to resign.”

"We have accepted his resignation and assistant coach Nshimiyimana will now handle the team till the end of the season.”Gakwaya said.

Nshimiyimana, 29, has been Kayiranga’s assist since last season and was coach of the club’s junior team before being elevated.

Kayiranga was the last coach to put a smile on Rayon fans back in 2004 when the club won the league although he was controversially sacked a year later.

During the 2008/09 season, he returned to the club as an assistant coach to Raoul Shungu. The following season, he was named head coach after Shungu was sacked for indiscipline.

Away from the pitch, Rayon has also had a fair share of off-field problems like financial crisis and untimely resignation of various executive members.
