Rwanda, was last weekend, once again in global headlines as this year’s winner of the International Diversity Award, dubbed Unity is Strength, that is presented annually by the Unity is Strength Foundation in Amsterdam, Holland.

This undoubtedly caught off balance those people who have embarked on a smear campaign aimed at portraying Rwanda as a country that has no respect for human rights in their quest to take back the country to the dark days.

The fact that this award was presented in Holland—with all due respect to the Dutch—a country where some of these people live, is yet another indication that their misinformation campaign has been largely ignored by many in the international community, who are gradually getting to learn the true story of Rwanda.

The same message should go to some of the so called experts who have been spreading malicious propaganda, for reasons only known to themselves, that it is high time they stopped misleading the world.

The fact that the special nomination committee that selected the winning country consisted of youth, is worth recognising.

Rwanda’s leadership has put much emphasis on shaping the youth in preparation for their future important role of keeping Rwanda peaceful and prosperous.
