THE Tour of Morocco is expected to be a roller coaster for the national cycling team ‘Team Rwanda’.
The team is not only contending with soaring temperatures but also the unfamiliar flat terrains.
As Team Rwanda Coach Jonathan Boyer recently acknowledged, recent statistics have proved that local cyclists are well suited for hilly terrains and always struggle on flat terrains.
"It is something we need to work on but it will take time.”
Besides the flat terrain, the high humid temperatures in the desert North African country will also prove to be a stumbling block for the riders.
Abraham Ruhumuriza, Nathan Byukusenge, Nicodem Habiyambere, Gasore Hategeka, Rafiki Uwimana and Obed Ruvogera are representing Rwanda in the ten-stage competition which rolled off yesterday.
The race which is ranked 2:2 by the International Cycling Union (UCI) has also attracted cyclists from Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Kenya, Cameroon, Gabon, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, South Africa and Burundi.
