BUGESERA – Over 70 employees of the World Relief organisation have contributed Rwf 4 million to vulnerable women and orphans in the Bugesera district.  

The money was handed over on Thursday by the World Relief Country Director, Phil Smith, and Pierre Claver Uwimana, who is in charge of World Relief programmes in Rwanda.

Smith assured the beneficiaries of continuous support.
 "We have earmarked Bugesera as a district that fits our interest…this is just the beginning, we shall keep on helping,” he said. 

The organisation also promised to construct shelter for needy women in Maranyundo, a village in the Nyamata sector.

"We are not only going to construct the houses for the poor widows, but also provide food to orphans,” Uwimana said. 

The District Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Léoinile Narumanzi, commended the donors, saying that their support supplements the government’s efforts.

"I thank this form of support with all my heart. They are doing great work to develop the widows. We have many widows due to our chaotic past, the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi,” Narumanzi said. 

Jeannine Tuyishimire, a widow with four children, expressed happiness for being chosen as the first beneficiary of World Relief’s housing programme.

"These people are incredible…they have built me a house and are busy planting some crops in my garden. I just don’t know what to say, God is great,” she said happily.
