Violet got married seven years ago but a year in marriage the husband got a chance to study in Canada. They have two kids and for six years her husband has not yet returned but they do communicate regularly. I happened to ask Violet how she handles the whole situation and all she said was, "It’s Love”.
Long distance relationship (LDR) is an intimate relationship that happens when partners are separated by a considerable distance.
There are several online dating sites that have boosted this kind of relationship with some people even ending up relocating.
Constant communication can be one of the tools to be used in order to sustain it longer. Phone calls, letters, Gifts and online chatting thanks to the social sites such as Facebook and Twitter that have become important factors in these relationships.
Different social vices are outcomes of this kind of relationship set-up and they include high rate of divorce, Sexual abuse, Adultery and Single parenting.
I interviewed different people to get views on the issue and below is what they had to say:-

None of them can persevere. Temptations are rampant and are affecting both parties. Who would manage to contain that patience? When a partner goes, let them go and push on with life, otherwise life still has a lot to offer.

It’s the Woman who can sustain it longest because they are more focused about the future with their partners than men.
PETER OJANJI (BUSSINESSMAN)
A Woman can be very patient because when they decide to love they do so unlike Men take love for granted.
HERBERT MUKASA (OPERATION MANAGER)
Women can be more patient in a long distance relationship than the Men because Women respect their feelings and interests and stick to them.
OLGA KYOMUGISHA (MANAGER)
Of course it’s the woman, if she is married and has children all the love is shifted to children in case the father is not there. As for the Men they don’t have such credibility.
JAMES KATUMBA (RESEARCH OFFICER)
A Woman can be more patient in a long distance relationship than the man because Women are strong in matters of patience while Men are totally impatient.
STACEY MBABAZI (CASHIER)
I think Women can sustain it longest because they consider a relationship to be very important and very valuable unlike the Men who consider it when the person is there. However, when there is some distance they tend to relate with another in order to fulfil there sexual urge.
MARTIN SEBUGWAWO (IT CONSULTANT)
It depends on the circumstances of the relationship, if they are married then both of them can be patient but if they are just dating then it is the Woman who can sustain it longer.
