UNLIKE the past three seasons where handball has been run on a slim budget from the Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc), the game’s governing body (Ferwahand) is working round the clock to change this.

The federation’s Secretary General Alfred Twahirwa says that talks are on going with a number of potential sponsors like Sulfo, Tigo and MTN to make the league lucrative.

"We are talking to the likes of Tigo and MTN so we hope things will be different this year,” he said.

The league, which was supposed to start this weekend, has now been postponed to April 3.

In the men’s category, reigning champions APR will open their title defense against Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), UNR will host SFB while 2007 champions Gicumbi will entertain Police.

Meanwhile, the ladies’ league pits APAPEKI Cyuru, St. Joseph, and APPEC Remera Rukoma.
