ALTHOUGH Emmanuel Ruterana had a shaky first round yesterday, the professional golfer still believes he can make the cut when the Kenya Open Golf Championship swings into day two this morning.

The 26-year-old was left scratching his head after amassing eight bogeys en route his 75 at the redesigned Par-71 Muthaiga golf course.

"At times, it was very frustrating because I tried too much and ended up making mistakes but I hope to settle down tomorrow and make sure I make the cut,” he said.

Ruterana, who played alongside England’s Andrew Willey and Jean-Nicholas Billot of France, tried to fight his way back with five birdies but it was a little too late.
Billot returned an impressive two-under par 69 while Willey leveled the course.

South Africa’s Jake Roos is top of the leader board with a resounding six-under par 65.

150 golfers are taking part in the four-day event which is also a regular event on the European Challenge Tour. At the end of the competition, about Rwf 147.5m will be dished out in prize money.
