EGYPT secured the lone African slot at the upcoming inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in style after Wednesday’s straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-11) victory over Rwanda in Cairo.

The victory means that the hosts, who saw off Rwanda in one hour, did not drop a set in the entire qualifiers.

Although Rwanda pushed the North Africans all the way in the opening set (20-25), they could not uphold that rhythm in the following sets as Egypt, led by Yamin Hussein, cruised to a 25-12 in the second set and 25-11 in the third set.

Egypt finished the tournament on 10 points, while Tunisia, who wrapped up their campaign with a 3-0 victory over South Africa finished were a point adrift in second place.

Kenya, who had to wrestle their way to a 3-2 set victory over DRC, secured the final podium slot on eight points. Rwanda finished fourth while DRC and South Africa took fifth and sixth positions.

The Singapore Youth Olympic Games will run from August 14 -26.
