The Minister for Infrastructure; Vincent Karega has said that at least 35 percent of tarmac roads nationwide need to be renovated and 16 percent urgent repair to help improve the agricultural sector.
He revealed this yesterday while appearing before Parliament to answer queries on how his ministry was supporting the agricultural sector.
"By the end of year, at least 126 kilometres of roads connecting directly to farmers will have been constructed,” Karega promised.
He added that access to electricity was also paramount but needed a lot of money.
The minister pointed out that only 10 percent of Rwandans had access to electricity though the government was doing everything possible to increase it to 16 percent by 2012.
"Our target for access to electricity is set to have increased to 30 percent by 2020, though we feel that’s not enough and are working towards increasing it to 50 percent,” Karega said.
He was appearing alongside Prime Minister Bernard Makuza and three other Ministers for Agriculture, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, Lands and Enviroment, Stanislas Kamanzi and Forests and Mines, Christopher Bazivamo.
