RWAMAGANA – A prisons warder, Valence Komezusenge, attached to Nsinda Prison, was arrested and detained at Muhazi Police Station on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 17-year- old student.

The incident occurred in Gatare village, Rwamagana district and the victim is a student of tailoring at Rwamagana vocational school.

The suspect is said to have raped his victim at 7.00 A.M after luring her into his house, according to Viviane Wihogora, one of the witnesses.

"He threw me on a bed and threatened to kill me as he raped me. I was terrified, but I continued to shout until people came in,” the victim told Police.

"I hope justice will take its course, since my tormentor has admitted to the crime before the police and local leaders. I however, feel my life is devastated; I could be pregnant or infected with HIV or both,” she lamented.

The Penal code states that rape case carries up to a 20 year jail stretch upon conviction.
