KARONGI – Two local defence personnel who have been on guard duties at Bwishyura Primary Court in Karongi district have been arrested for allegedly stealing court exhibits.

Emmanuel Twagiramungu and another guard only identified as Damien are said to have stolen marijuana, local brew popularly known as kanyanga and an assortment of other items which had been seized from suspects who are facing trials at the court.

The guards have been working at the court for over a year.
According to authorities at the court , disappearance of exhibits has been reported but those responsible have so far gone unidentified.

"The store in which they were kept had a broken window and we suspect that those arrested used it to access the exhibits. It is highly suspected that once stolen the exhibits were then sold off to local residents,” authorities said.
